Summary

Like many others, I wanted to read this book before watching the Netflix show。 I’ve had this book for a few years now and just never got around to reading it。 But it was time to jump on the bandwagon! I’m glad I read this book and I wish I had read this sooner。 There was so much action and suspense in the book, something was always happening。 This was a YA novel that I didn’t feel too old for。 I loved the characters and the twists。 Overall, a great YA book。

i don’t get why people like this book so much。 i hate all the characters SO much。 it wasn’t boring which is why i give it a 3 star but it was super frustrating to read

sorry will not finish。 I watched it and did not finish too at Netflix。 That’s all for young adults, so much flr fantasy adventure, I’m not sure that I like reading it, just visual art maybe。

Maybe wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read but got me out of reading slump and was pretty entertaining。

4。5/5I LOVED THIS BOOK!! the worldbuilding is exquisite, not to mention the amazing light/dark character contrast between alina and the darkling。 the only reason i didn’t give it five stars was because i felt like the beginning was pretty slow。 but, once i was in, i was IN! i love dark characters and the darkling definitely fits the bill。 i love his character and am so excited to see what they do with him。 alina is a pretty classic female protagonist - starts small, finds out she has a HUGE dest 4。5/5I LOVED THIS BOOK!! the worldbuilding is exquisite, not to mention the amazing light/dark character contrast between alina and the darkling。 the only reason i didn’t give it five stars was because i felt like the beginning was pretty slow。 but, once i was in, i was IN! i love dark characters and the darkling definitely fits the bill。 i love his character and am so excited to see what they do with him。 alina is a pretty classic female protagonist - starts small, finds out she has a HUGE destiny, doesn’t really want any part of it。 and i don’t hate mal, buuuut he is definitely not my favorite because he just reeks of toxic masculinity。 i am so excited to keep discovering my love for the grishaverse and then finally watch the show haha。 。。。more

I was expecting A lot, this was obviously quite a fun read but the hype around this series, just put my expectations too high and they weren’t really met in this book :(

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don’t even know where to begin。 So, the Darkling is an equivalent of a fvck boy: we’re attracted to them but we really should steer clear because they’re toxic。 Alina and Mal, I love them together。 I hate Alina had to leave Genya。 I know she felt as though they were friends, but then again, Genya seemed shady towards the end, and I question where here loyalties lie。

Of course the role of the Darkling I wish was a bit different- don't like the "cliche villain"。 Really thought he'd be a hero in this story but I guess not。 Overall though I liked the story! This is the second time I’ve read this book and it was so unremarkable the first time the I didn’t remember a single thing about it。 Very generic

Wow。 Just wow。 This is such an easy read。 I just kept on reading and reading, only stopping for dinner and the toilet breaks。 So there are a lot of weird terms that get used throughout the book and I must confess that I am still confused what some of them mean, even tho I’ve read the book。 But other than that I have nothing to say or complain about。 Just that I want a certain person gone and a happier ending。 But luckily I have two more books to go!

It had been years since I first read this book, the translated version at that。 I remember all the surges of emotion that ran through me, and it surprises me to how little and yet how much things I do remember about the story。 One being how some characters seemed so familiar。 How some plots I was prepared for。 How the Darkling still has my heart beats。 But I was not prepared to how the story ends。 One that's familiar, and yet is not how I imagined things to be。 I figured, I was hurt over the fac It had been years since I first read this book, the translated version at that。 I remember all the surges of emotion that ran through me, and it surprises me to how little and yet how much things I do remember about the story。 One being how some characters seemed so familiar。 How some plots I was prepared for。 How the Darkling still has my heart beats。 But I was not prepared to how the story ends。 One that's familiar, and yet is not how I imagined things to be。 I figured, I was hurt over the fact that Alina isn't with the Darkling。 That he, as charming as he might be, was not the person we (Alina and Me) had expected him to be。 Excited to read Siege and storm。 RR 24/04/21 01:XX AM - 25/04-21 04:5X AM 。。。more

A well written easy read, but I don’t get the hype that is going on。 I expected more。 I enjoyed it, I was interested, but I’m not tempted to read the whole series/hungry for the next book。 I may read the next one just to see, but not anytime soon。

okay look,, i really liked it。 this book actually got me out of a month long reading slump。 stilling holding out for an enemies to lovers and i love alinas power but i don’t know。 i feel like there’s something missing ? overall it was good and i will be reading the next book in the series but i don’t think i like it more than six of crows

I loved the writing of this book! Alina is a badass bitch and I love her。 THE DARKLING HAD FOOLED IN THE BEGINNING!! Mal is a bit meh, but get it I guess。

I've heard some of the hype (and that there's a TV series now), so I thought I'd check it out。 Perhaps I was skeptical or perhaps I've just been let down by hyped things before, but it seems I enjoyed this more than I thought I would --- how often does that happen?Alina is refreshing YA heroine and the world building in this book is fascinating。 I've heard some of the hype (and that there's a TV series now), so I thought I'd check it out。 Perhaps I was skeptical or perhaps I've just been let down by hyped things before, but it seems I enjoyed this more than I thought I would --- how often does that happen?Alina is refreshing YA heroine and the world building in this book is fascinating。 。。。more

I read the Six of Crows duology over a year ago, which I absolutely adored, and I hadn't realized that the TV show for Shadow and Bone was coming out so soon, so I thought I better read it before I watch it。 After reading this, I have to say I enjoyed Six of Crows much more, as it was more captivating and complex, but Shadow and Bone was still entertaining。 If you're looking to get into the Grishaverse, I would actually start with Six of Crows, even though it takes place after this trilogy。 I read the Six of Crows duology over a year ago, which I absolutely adored, and I hadn't realized that the TV show for Shadow and Bone was coming out so soon, so I thought I better read it before I watch it。 After reading this, I have to say I enjoyed Six of Crows much more, as it was more captivating and complex, but Shadow and Bone was still entertaining。 If you're looking to get into the Grishaverse, I would actually start with Six of Crows, even though it takes place after this trilogy。 。。。more

Good read。 Very typical YA that felt boring at the start。 The second half was more engaging and interesting。 Development was pretty smooth throughout。 There were moments that seemed forced to make the plot move along。 Some of these end up making sense eventually and made the story more enjoyable。 Looking forward to the Netflix series!

I fully acknowledge that this book has its problems but it was like candy in the shape of a novel for me。 It was just the escapist nonsense I needed after an especially stressful week at work。 I'm going to run to B&N now to buy the rest of the trilogy because I have no patience and even less self-control。 I fully acknowledge that this book has its problems but it was like candy in the shape of a novel for me。 It was just the escapist nonsense I needed after an especially stressful week at work。 I'm going to run to B&N now to buy the rest of the trilogy because I have no patience and even less self-control。 。。。more

Kurczę, taka trochę nijaka była ta książka, bez szału。 Dość przewidywalna, intrygi były proste i oczywiste, bohaterowie tacy okrutnie "typowi" dla gatunku。 Ogólnie dość mocno tu czuć schematy literatury młodzieżowej sprzed dekady, kiedy dużo bohaterów wyglądało tak samo i tylko fabuła się zmieniała。 Dla jasności - gdybym miała parę lat mniej to bym pewnie tą książkę kochała xD Obecnie to jest to taki średniaczek。Zabieram się za 2 tom i mam nadzieję na odrobinę mniej tej przewidywalności! 🙃 Kurczę, taka trochę nijaka była ta książka, bez szału。 Dość przewidywalna, intrygi były proste i oczywiste, bohaterowie tacy okrutnie "typowi" dla gatunku。 Ogólnie dość mocno tu czuć schematy literatury młodzieżowej sprzed dekady, kiedy dużo bohaterów wyglądało tak samo i tylko fabuła się zmieniała。 Dla jasności - gdybym miała parę lat mniej to bym pewnie tą książkę kochała xD Obecnie to jest to taki średniaczek。Zabieram się za 2 tom i mam nadzieję na odrobinę mniej tej przewidywalności! 🙃 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Let’s say that the book disappointed me a little。 I feel like it could have been good, but there were so many “weak spots” in the plot。 Especially when it comes to the characters and the “relationship” between Alina and Darkling。 I will still continue reading the series (for the sake of the serie on Netflix) but honestly, there is something about Alina that I didn’t like, and the plot was also too predictable for my taste。

I didn’t love it; I didn’t really hate it either。 Shadow and Bone is a bit of a mixed bagged for me and I think it’s probably because it was forced into being a YA novel 3/5
